Avoid Withdrawal Shock

When sending money to a vendor or relative who needs to withdraw cash at an agent, always send the principal plus the withdrawal fee so they get the full intended amount.

Pochi vs Personal Send

Pochi la Biashara allows small business owners to separate business income from personal funds with simplified MSME collection fee caps.

Quick Answers

M-PESA Tariff FAQs

Is sending money below KSh 100 on M-PESA free?

Yes, sending amounts between KSh 1 and KSh 100 to registered M-PESA users is free of charge (KSh 0).

What is the maximum M-PESA limit per transaction?

The maximum limit for a single M-PESA transaction is KSh 250,000, while the maximum account balance and daily transaction limit is KSh 500,000 as regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Are Lipa na M-PESA (Buy Goods) payments free for customers?

For standard retail stores, supermarkets, and restaurants, Buy Goods is 100% free for the paying customer. The merchant absorbs the 0.55% collection fee.

Why am I charged a fee when paying for fuel at petrol stations?

Petrol stations in Kenya operate on strict profit margins capped by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). Because fuel retailers cannot absorb the 0.55% merchant fee within regulated pump prices, oil marketing companies (Rubis, TotalEnergies, Shell, Ola) are legally permitted to pass the ~0.55% processing surcharge to the customer.

How do I calculate agent withdrawal fees before sending money?

Use our calculator to look up the exact agent withdrawal fee for your target amount, then add that fee to your transfer so the recipient withdraws the exact net cash needed.
